EDN 501 HISTORY & PHILOSOPHY OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Three hours

This course surveys Christian education from Bible times, together with basic principles of Christian education, and current issues such as church-based schools and non-graded teaching.

EDN 502 PRINCIPLES OF LEARNING AND OF TEACHING

Three hours

This course analyzes the learning process, together with principles and practices of teaching from a Christian perspective. Various methods of teaching are considered in differing settings.

EDN 503 INTRODUCTION TO INDUCTIVE BIBLE STUDY

Three hours

Method of Bible study are considered with special reference to inductive Bible study which observes Scripture closely in context. The principle of inductive study is then applied to a Bible Book.

EDN 504 THE CHRISTIAN EDUCATION OF YOUNG CHILDREN

Three hours

This is an overview of child development, including the study of theorists such as Jean Piaget. Individual differences, maturational stages, and other concepts are recognized. Children's activities are considered in the light of Biblical principles.

EDN 505 THE CHRISTIAN EDUCATION OF ADULTS (See CHD 504)

Three hours

Transitions in the adult life-cycle: some issues of each period are examined and support needs are considered. This includes the church's role in encouraging adults through change, in personal development, and in training adults in leadership and service.

EDN 506 SURVEY OF CHRISTIAN TEACHING IN SECULAR SUBJECTS

This course considers opposing schools of thought as to the extent Christian teachings (especially the Bible) should be incorporated into teaching subjects such as English, Mathematics, History, Social Studies and Science.

EDN 512 THEOLOGICAL EDUCATION BY EXTENSION

Three hours

(In preparation.) This course offers a descriptive analysis of theological education by extension, and goes on to develop a module for either classroom use or for self-instruction on TEE.

EDN 514 THE PRINCIPLE APPROACH TO CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Three hours

This involves the study and application of seven principles of Christian education for the home and school. This specialized approach is highly relevant to all areas of Christian education.

EDN 530 DIRECTED STUDY

Three hours

This "opens the door" to many areas of research for candidates. In discussion with P.I.U. tutorial staff, candidates may find a topic outside the above areas, but clearly related to "Christian Education".
