Some offerings in O.T. Outlines and O.T. Books overlap. Where individual
Books are studied, greater in-depth work is required than at the survey
level.
OTO 501 A & OTO 501 BIBLE SURVEY
(Bridging Courses)

This surveys all the Books of the Bible, together with a great deal of
background and other material. It is an excellent introduction to in-depth
studies of particular Books, and it is especially recommended for candidates
with no previous formal Bible study.
OTO 502 OLD TESTAMENT BACKGROUNDS
Three hours
This study gives an introduction to views on inspiration, the growth of the
Old Testament Canon, and Old Testament backgrounds. The Old Testament is
considered as literature and as history, and the geography of Bible lands is
examined. There is an introduction to Biblical archaeology and to the critical
study of the Old Testament.
OTO 503 A - OLD TESTAMENT SURVEY
PART I
Three hours
This course considers: The Inspiration of Old Testament scriptures; The
Canon of the Old Testament; A Survey of the History of Israel; Outlines of the
Books of the Law and the Former Prophets; and a summary as to Christ in the Old
Testament.
OTO 503 B OLD TESTAMENT SURVEY
PART 2
Three hours
This examines Prophecy in Israel: the Major and Minor Prophets; The Wisdom
Writings - Psalms, Proverbs, Job; The Five Rolls - Ecclesiastes, Song of
Solomon, Ruth, Lamentations, Esther; The Books of History - I & 11
Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah; and the Writings of Daniel.
OTO 505 PENTATEUCH
Three hours
This study offers a comprehensive survey of the first five Books of the
Bible, including historical background, authorship and an exegetical analysis.
Some of the critical arguments are examined; as also are typological and
prophetic pointers to Christ.
OTO 506 OLD TESTAMENT HISTORY 1:
MOSES TO SOLOMON
Three hours
This is a survey of the geography, history, chronology, and harmony of
events in the Old Testament from Moses to Solomon. Some critical material is
examined.
OTO 507 OLD TESTAMENT HISTORY 11:
from the DIVIDED KINGDOM to the RETURN FROM EXILE
Three hours
This is a survey of the geography, history, chronology and harmony of events
in the Old Testament as evidenced by the Books of Kings, Chronicles,
Ezra, Nehemiah and relevant portions of the O.T. Prophets. Some critical
material is examined.
OTO 508 INTER-TESTAMENTAL HISTORY/LITERATURE/RELIGION
Three hours
This is a survey of the Inter-Testamental period. The Old Testament
teachings and practices are relevant for this period, and the ^P

OTO 509 WISDOM WRITINGS:
JOB, PSALMS, PROVERBS
Three hours
Each of these Books is surveyed, together with the principles of
interpreting Hebrew poetry as analyzed and applied to O.T. Wisdom Writings.
OTO 510 MAJOR PROPHETS:
ISAIAH, JEREMIAH, EZEKIEL
Three hours
The background, the occasion and the content of each of these Books
is examined. Leading doctrines are considered, including their complementary
approaches. Both critical and devotional aspects are studied.
OTO 511 THE MINOR PROPHETS
Three hours
This is a study of the historical background and authorship,
and an exegetical analysis, of each of the twelve Minor
Prophets. Ways in which they point to the Messiah are considered.
OTO 512 THE FIVE SCROLLS:
RUTH, ESTHER, ECCLESIASTES, SONG OF SOLOMON, LAMENTATIONS

This is a survey of the contents of each of these Books, and it is also an
analysis of their historical backgrounds and importance in the
ceremonial life of Israel.
OTO 513 THE MESSIANIC HOPE IN THE OLD TESTAMENT

The Old Testament points on to the Messiah - by type, illustration, and
prophecy. The veracity of the prophecies is demonstrated, being set against the
backgrounds claimed for them. The ways in which the Dead Sea Scroll community
at Qumran searched for a number of Messiahs is also considered.
OTO 514 OLD TESTAMENT THEOLOGY
Three hours
This is an analysis of the important doctrines of the Old Testament. This
survey recognizes the consistency of the teachings of both Old and New
Testaments. Jesus Christ is the central Theme, either typically, prophetically,
or in Person.

OLD TESTAMENT BOOKS
In each of the following Book studies, an analytical and expository survey
is presented. The historical background is examined, and doctrinal and ethical
questions are considered. In some cases there is a measure of overlap with
courses offered under Old Testament Outlines. Where the same material is
utilized, additional directed research will be required. Where individual Books
are studied, greater in-depth work is required than at the survey level of Old
Testament Outlines.
